This Witch Hat Halloween Cheese Ball is a festive and fun appetizer perfect for holiday gatherings. Made with creamy cream cheese, sharp white cheddar, and flavorful ranch seasoning, it is shaped to resemble a witch’s hat and coated in poppy seeds for a delightful texture. Serve with crackers, pretzels, bread, or vegetables for a spooky and tasty party treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Cheese Ball

  • 16 oz Cream Cheese (2 blocks, room temperature)
  • 3 cups Sharp White Cheddar Cheese (shredded, room temperature)
  • 1 oz Ranch Seasoning Mix

Coating

  • 1 cup Poppy Seeds

Instructions

  1. Bring Ingredients to Room Temperature: Let the cream cheese and shredded sharp cheddar cheese sit out until they reach room temperature to ensure smooth mixing.
  2. Mix Cheese and Seasoning: In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, combine the cream cheese, sharp white cheddar cheese, and ranch seasoning mix until well blended.
  3. Shape the Hat Brim: Divide the cheese mixture into one-third and two-thirds portions. Transfer the one-third portion onto a sheet of plastic wrap and form it into a flat, wide disc to resemble the brim of the witch’s hat. If the mixture feels too soft to shape, place it in the freezer for 30 minutes to firm up.
  4. Form the Hat Cone: Take the remaining two-thirds of the cheese mixture and shape it into a cone. Place the cone on top of the brim to create the witch’s hat shape. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to set.
  5. Coat with Poppy Seeds: Once the cheese ball is firm, unwrap it and evenly press poppy seeds all over the surface to cover the hat completely, giving it texture and a spooky appearance.
  6. Serve: Serve the witch hat cheese ball with crackers, pretzels, bread, and vegetables. It can be prepared several days in advance and stored in the refrigerator covered tightly with plastic wrap.

Notes

  • Make sure cream cheese and cheddar are at room temperature for easier mixing and smoother texture.
  • If the cheese mixture is too soft to shape, chilling it in the freezer helps firm it up without freezing it solid.
  • This cheese ball can be made a few days ahead and stored covered in the refrigerator to allow flavors to meld.
  • Use plastic wrap to shape and store the cheese ball to keep it neat and prevent it from drying out.
  • Serve with a variety of dippers like crackers, pretzels, sliced baguette, or fresh vegetables for extra flair.
