  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey for a leaner option)
  • 4 medium-sized potatoes, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced

Sauces and Seasonings

  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • to taste Olive oil for cooking

Cheese and Garnish

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preparation: Dice the potatoes, onion, and bell pepper. Set them aside to prepare for cooking.
  2. Heat the skillet: Place a large skillet over medium heat and add a tablespoon of olive oil to coat the bottom.
  3. Cook potatoes: Add the diced potatoes to the skillet, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 10-12 minutes until they are golden brown and tender, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  4. Sauté onions and bell peppers: Push the cooked potatoes to one side of the skillet. On the other side, add the diced onions and bell peppers and sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened.
  5. Brown the meat: Add the ground beef (or turkey) to the onions and peppers, breaking it up with a spatula, and cook until fully browned.
  6. Add flavorings: Season the meat mixture with garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, and pour in the tomato sauce. Stir everything together well.
  7. Simmer to meld flavors: Combine all ingredients evenly in the skillet and let cook for another 5 minutes to allow the flavors to blend together.
  8. Melt the cheese: Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top. Cover the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted and gooey.
  9. Serve and garnish: Remove from heat, garnish with fresh chopped green onions, and serve hot straight from the skillet.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey for a leaner protein option without sacrificing flavor.
  • Adjust the seasoning to your taste, especially salt and pepper, since some tomato sauces vary in salt content.
  • For a spicier twist, add a pinch of chili powder or red pepper flakes when cooking the meat.
  • If you prefer softer potatoes, you can parboil them before sautéing.
  • This dish serves well as a standalone meal or paired with a simple green salad.
