Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice (uncooked)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Cheese Sauce

  • 1 cup cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese (grated)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Beef: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned and fully cooked, seasoning lightly with salt and pepper. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  2. Sauté Garlic: Push the beef to one side of the skillet. Add the minced garlic to the empty space and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  3. Season the Beef: Sprinkle the onion powder and Cajun seasoning over the beef and garlic, stirring to coat everything evenly with the spices.
  4. Add Rice and Broth: Pour in the uncooked rice and beef broth. Stir well to combine all ingredients and bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
  5. Simmer the Rice: Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and simmer for 18-20 minutes until the rice is tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. Make the Cheese Sauce: Remove the skillet from heat. Fold in the grated parmesan and shredded cheddar cheese, stirring until the sauce becomes thick, creamy, and the cheese has melted completely.
  7. Adjust and Serve: Taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt, pepper, or Cajun seasoning as preferred. Serve immediately, garnished with extra cheese or chopped parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Be sure to not overcook the garlic to avoid bitterness.
  • Use low-sodium beef broth if you want to control salt content.
  • Stir the rice occasionally during simmering to prevent it from sticking to the pan.
  • Feel free to substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • This dish can be garnished with chopped parsley or extra cheese for added flavor and presentation.
