Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Seasoning

  • 2 lbs. boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Salt, to season
  • Pepper, to season
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

Sauce

  • ½ cup Florida Orange Juice
  • ½ cup honey
  • ⅓ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup rice wine vinegar
  • 3 tbsp. cornstarch
  • ½ tsp. ground ginger
  • ½ tsp. white pepper
  • Pinch of crushed red pepper flakes

Garnish

  • Green onions, sliced
  • Toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the minced garlic, Florida Orange Juice, honey, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, cornstarch, ground ginger, white pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes. Whisk together thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated and the cornstarch is dissolved.
  2. Cook the Chicken: Heat olive oil in a large sauté pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the bite-sized chicken pieces to the pan. Season generously with salt and pepper. Sauté the chicken, stirring occasionally, for 4 to 6 minutes or until the pieces are browned and cooked through.
  3. Add the Sauce to Chicken: Pour the prepared orange chicken sauce over the cooked chicken in the pan. Stir well to combine the sauce evenly with the chicken pieces. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
  4. Thicken the Sauce: Allow the sauce to boil and cook, stirring briefly from time to time, until it thickens to a glossy coating on the chicken. This should take approximately 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. Serve and Garnish: Remove the pan from heat. Serve the orange chicken immediately over steamed rice or your preferred side. Garnish generously with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds for added flavor and crunch.

Notes

  • Ensure the chicken pieces are cut uniformly for even cooking.
  • Adjust the amount of crushed red pepper flakes based on your preferred spice level.
  • Use fresh Florida Orange Juice for the best citrus flavor; bottled juice may alter the taste slightly.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute soy sauce with tamari or a gluten-free soy sauce alternative.
  • This recipe pairs well with steamed jasmine rice or fried rice and steamed vegetables.
