Ingredients

Scale

For the Beef Filling:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • Juice of ½ lemon

For the Wrap Assembly:

  • 4 pita breads or flatbreads
  • ½ cup hummus
  • ½ cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1 cup chopped lettuce or arugula
  • ½ cup diced cucumber
  • ½ cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • ¼ cup sliced red onion
  • Fresh parsley or mint, for garnish

Optional Sauce:

  • ½ cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • Salt & pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the Beef: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing for 2–3 minutes until softened and fragrant. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks until browned and cooked through. Stir in ground cumin, smoked paprika, ground cinnamon (if using), dried oregano, salt, pepper, and the juice of half a lemon. Cook for an additional 2–3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Remove from heat.
  2. Prepare the Yogurt Sauce (Optional): In a small bowl, whisk together Greek yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper until smooth and well combined. Set aside for serving.
  3. Assemble the Pitas: Warm the pita breads slightly to make them pliable. Spread a generous layer of hummus on each pita. Top with the cooked beef mixture followed by chopped lettuce or arugula, diced cucumber, halved cherry tomatoes, sliced red onion, and crumbled feta cheese.
  4. Finish & Serve: Drizzle the optional yogurt sauce over the assembled fillings, garnish with fresh parsley or mint leaves for added freshness and aroma. Fold or roll the pita wraps carefully and serve immediately while warm and flavorful.

Notes

  • For added heat, you can sprinkle some crushed red pepper flakes into the beef mixture while cooking.
  • Ground cinnamon is optional but adds a warm depth to the beef; feel free to omit if preferred.
  • If pita breads are not available, soft flatbreads or tortillas can be used as a substitute.
  • The yogurt sauce can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated to let flavors develop.
  • Leftover beef mixture can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and used in salads or wraps.
