For the Dough
- 1 3/4 to 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 envelope Fleischmann’s Pizza Yeast (about 2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons granulated sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup very warm water
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil or canola oil
For the Pizza
- 1 cup pizza sauce
- 1/2 pound fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced or shredded
- Desired pizza toppings for decoration and flavor: pepperoni, bell peppers, olives, onion, pineapple, parsley, salami, Canadian bacon
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) to ensure it’s hot enough for a crispy crust.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of the flour, undissolved yeast, sugar, and salt. This starts the yeast activation process and builds the dough base.
- Add Wet Ingredients and Form Dough: Pour in the very warm water and vegetable oil, mixing together until well blended, approximately 1 minute. Gradually add the remaining flour to form a soft dough ball that is slightly sticky.
- Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it for about 4 minutes. Add flour as needed to keep it from sticking. Knead until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Divide and Shape: Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Roll or pat each portion into an 8-inch circle and place each on a greased baking sheet.
- Partial Bake the Crust: Bake the dough circles for 5-6 minutes until just set and lightly browned on the bottom; this prevents sogginess when toppings are added.
- Add Sauce and Toppings: Spread a layer of pizza sauce on each prebaked crust. Then arrange fresh mozzarella cheese and your desired toppings creatively to make Halloween-themed designs.
- Bake the Pizzas: Return the pizzas to the oven and bake for an additional 5-8 minutes, until the cheese melts and bubbles and toppings are cooked through.
Notes
- Using very warm water is important to activate the yeast properly.
- You can substitute vegetable oil with olive oil for a richer flavor.
- Customize your Halloween pizza designs to be spooky or fun with the variety of toppings.
- Prebaking the crust ensures the base stays crispy and doesn’t get soggy from the sauce and toppings.
- For a crispier crust, bake pizzas on a pizza stone or metal baking sheet instead of a greased sheet.
