Gordon Ramsay’s Tiramisu is a decadent and creamy Italian dessert featuring layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and a rich mascarpone cream. This classic recipe combines the bold flavors of espresso with a light, airy mascarpone mixture and is finished with a dusting of cocoa powder and optional dark chocolate shavings for an elegant touch. Perfect for a special occasion or a delightful treat, this tiramisu is sure to impress.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cream Layer:

  • 4 egg yolks
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 8 ounces mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream

For the Coffee-Soaked Layers:

  • 1 ½ cups brewed espresso or strong coffee, cooled
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 24 ladyfinger biscuits

For Topping:

  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Dark chocolate shavings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mascarpone Cream: Whisk the egg yolks and sugar together in a heatproof bowl over simmering water for about 5 minutes until pale and silky. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Fold in the mascarpone cheese until smooth. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, then gently fold it into the mascarpone mixture to maintain the airy texture.
  2. Prepare the Coffee Soaking Mixture: Brew espresso or strong coffee and cool to room temperature. Stir in sugar and vanilla extract until fully dissolved, creating a sweetened coffee mixture perfect for soaking the ladyfingers.
  3. Assemble the Tiramisu: Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure they’re moist but not soggy. Arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers in your serving dish. Spread half of the mascarpone cream evenly over the layer. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone cream.
  4. Chill and Serve: Cover the assembled tiramisu with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or preferably overnight to allow flavors to meld and the dessert to set. Just before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and optionally garnish with dark chocolate shavings for an elegant finish.

Notes

  • Use freshly brewed espresso for the best coffee flavor; strong brewed coffee can be an alternative.
  • Be careful not to soak ladyfingers for too long to avoid a soggy texture.
  • For food safety, consider using pasteurized eggs or egg yolk substitutes if serving to vulnerable groups.
  • Tiramisu improves in flavor if refrigerated overnight.
  • Dark chocolate shavings add a nice texture and appearance but are optional.
