Ingredients

Scale

Beef Stroganoff

  • 1 pound beef sirloin, sliced into thin strips
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Noodles

  • 12 ounces egg noodles (or your choice of base)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Noodles: Begin by boiling water in a large pot. Add the egg noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Sear the Beef: In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the beef strips and cook for about 3-4 minutes until browned. Remove the beef and set it aside.
  3. Sauté Onions and Garlic: In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil and sauté the chopped onion for 2-3 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the Mushrooms: Stir in the sliced mushrooms and cook for about 5 minutes until they are softened and browned.
  5. Thicken with Flour: Sprinkle the flour over the mixture and stir well to coat all the ingredients. Cook for 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste.
  6. Add Broth and Worcestershire Sauce: Gradually pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring continuously until the sauce begins to thicken smoothly.
  7. Incorporate the Sour Cream: Reduce the heat to low, and add the sour cream. Stir until well combined and creamy, cooking for another 2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Return the Beef: Add the cooked beef back into the skillet, stirring to coat it thoroughly with the sauce. Heat through for another couple of minutes to meld flavors.
  9. Serve Immediately: Combine the Stroganoff with the cooked noodles or serve it separately as preferred. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for color and freshness.

Notes

  • Ensure the beef is sliced thinly against the grain for maximum tenderness.
  • Do not boil the sour cream to avoid curdling; keep the heat low when adding it.
  • Use fresh mushrooms for the best flavor, but cremini or button mushrooms are good substitutes.
  • Serve immediately as the dish tastes best fresh and hot.
  • For gluten-free options, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend and use gluten-free noodles.
