Chicken
- 2 lbs chicken tenders, thighs, or breast, cut into 3-inch pieces
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Chicken Seasonings
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
Garlic Parmesan Butter Sauce
- 1 stick butter (4 oz or 113g)
- 8–10 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1 tbsp hot sauce (adjust more if desired)
- 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
- 1/3 cup fresh parsley, minced
- Soak the Skewers: Soak wooden skewers in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent burning during cooking.
- Season the Chicken: In a small bowl, combine paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Toss the chicken pieces with olive oil and the seasoning mixture in a large bowl or zip-top bag until fully coated.
- Skewer the Chicken: Thread the seasoned chicken pieces tightly onto the soaked skewers. Snip the top few inches of the skewers if needed to fit inside the air fryer.
- Prepare Garlic Parmesan Butter Sauce: In a microwave-safe bowl, partially melt the butter with minced garlic. Stir in red pepper flakes, hot sauce, minced parsley, and parmesan cheese. Whisk until the sauce is smooth and combined. If the sauce separates, add 1-2 tablespoons softened butter and stir to re-emulsify.
- Baste Initial Chicken: Reserve about one-third of the sauce for basting the par-cooked chicken. Use this portion to baste the chicken shortly after it begins cooking. Be sure to wash your basting brush between uses to avoid cross-contamination.
- Cook the Chicken Skewers: Place 2-3 skewers at a time in the air fryer. Cook at 400°F for 5 minutes. Remove, flip the skewers, and baste with sauce, then cook for an additional 2 minutes. Flip the skewers again, baste with more sauce, and cook for 5-6 more minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. Total cooking time is 12-14 minutes, but may vary based on air fryer model.
- Final Baste and Serve: Once cooked, give the chicken skewers a final brush of the reserved garlic parmesan butter sauce. Sprinkle extra parmesan on top and serve immediately while hot and juicy.
Notes
- Soaking wooden skewers helps prevent them from burning in the air fryer.
- Adjust the amount of hot sauce and red pepper flakes to control spice level.
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure chicken is cooked to a safe internal temperature of 165°F.
- If you don’t have an air fryer, these skewers can be grilled or baked in an oven at 425°F for similar results.
- Leftover sauce can be refrigerated and gently reheated for use as a dipping sauce.
