Ingredients

Scale

For the Filling:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped (any color)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

For the Bread:

  • 1 tube refrigerated pizza dough
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or greasing it lightly to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook the Filling: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary. Add the finely chopped onion, chopped bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for 4-5 minutes until the vegetables soften. Stir in salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, paprika, ketchup, and barbecue sauce. Mix well and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and let the filling cool slightly.
  3. Assemble the Garbage Bread: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a large rectangle approximately 12×15 inches. Spread the slightly cooled beef mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the filling. Starting from a long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Tuck in the ends and pinch the seams to seal the roll completely. Place the log seam-side down onto the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Brush with Butter and Bake: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter with garlic powder. Brush this mixture generously over the top of the rolled dough. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until the crust is golden brown and fully cooked through. Once done, remove from the oven and allow the bread to cool for 5-10 minutes to set before slicing.
  5. Slice and Serve: Using a sharp knife, slice the bread into 1-inch thick pieces. Serve warm and garnish with chopped parsley to add a fresh touch and vibrant color.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or sausage according to your preference.
  • Feel free to add other vegetables such as mushrooms or olives for extra flavor.
  • For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes or hot sauce to the filling mix.
  • Make sure to seal the dough well to prevent filling from leaking during baking.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven to maintain crispness.
