Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
Topping
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425˚F to ensure it’s ready for baking the scones.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the flour, 1/3 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt, blending them evenly.
- Add Cream & Form Dough: Make a well in the center of the dry mixture and pour in the heavy cream. Stir until the dough just comes together into a cohesive mass that holds but is not overly sticky.
- Shape & Cut Dough: Lightly flour a work surface and divide the dough into two halves. Shape each half into a disc about 1.5 to 2 inches thick, then cut each disc into six triangular wedges like slices of a pizza.
- Prepare for Baking: Place the scones on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them slightly apart.
- Bake Scones: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the centers are set and the edges begin to turn a golden brown.
- Make Cinnamon Sugar Topping: While the scones bake, mix together 1/4 cup granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon in a small bowl.
- Coat Scones with Cinnamon Sugar: When the scones come out of the oven, let them cool for about 5 minutes. Then, either sprinkle the cinnamon sugar over the scones to coat or place the scones in a large zip-top bag with the cinnamon sugar and gently shake them to coat evenly.
Notes
- Do not overmix the dough to keep the scones light and tender.
- If you prefer a less rich texture, you can substitute half-and-half or whole milk for the heavy cream, but the scones will be less moist.
- For a variation, add raisins or chopped nuts to the dough before baking.
- Ensure the oven is fully preheated to get the best rise and browning.
