Instructions

  2. Prepare Cake Batter: Mix the white cake batter according to the box instructions. Once mixed, add orange food coloring gradually until the desired vibrant orange color is achieved.
  3. Layer Batters in Liners: Place cupcake liners in a cupcake pan. Spoon the brownie batter into each liner, filling about one third full. Then, carefully cover the brownie layer with the orange cake batter, filling the liners up to about three quarters full. This layering ensures more cake than brownie in each cupcake.
  4. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cupcakes for 15 to 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs but no wet batter.
  5. Cool: Remove the cupcakes from the oven and allow them to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before frosting.
  6. Frost: Prepare a batch of The Best Buttercream Frosting (commonly made with butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk or cream). Frost each cooled cupcake generously with the buttercream.
