Ingredients

Scale

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon cracked red pepper flakes

Main Ingredients

  • 2 (3 ounce) packages ramen noodles, seasoning packets discarded
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • 1 pound sirloin steak, trimmed of fat and sliced into 1 1/2-inch strips (about 1/4-inch thickness)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce and cornstarch until combined and lump-free. Add the beef broth, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and cracked red pepper flakes; whisk thoroughly to combine. Set this sauce mixture aside.
  2. Cook the ramen noodles: Bring a medium pot of water to a boil and cook the ramen noodles until just tender, about 2-3 minutes. Drain them and rinse under cold water to stop further cooking. Toss the noodles with 1 teaspoon of sesame oil to prevent sticking and set aside.
  3. Cook the steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until hot and shimmering. Season the sliced steak with kosher salt and black pepper. Add the steak to the skillet and cook without stirring for about 3 minutes to develop a good sear. Stir and cook for an additional 2 minutes until cooked through. Remove the steak from the skillet and drain any excess grease.
  4. Steam the broccoli: Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the same skillet. Add the broccoli florets and pour in 1/2 cup of water. Cover the skillet and steam the broccoli for about 2 minutes, until it turns bright green and is fork-tender but still crisp. Remove the lid after steaming.
  5. Combine steak and noodles: Return the cooked steak to the skillet along with the cooked ramen noodles. Stir gently to combine.
  6. Add the sauce and finish cooking: Give the prepared sauce a quick stir, then pour it into the skillet with the steak, broccoli, and noodles. Using tongs, toss and mix everything well to evenly coat all ingredients with the sauce. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until heated through and slightly thickened.
  7. Serve: Plate the stir fry immediately, garnishing generously with sesame seeds for a nutty finish.

Notes

  • Discard the seasoning packets from the ramen noodles as they are not needed for this recipe.
  • To prevent noodles from sticking together after draining, toss with sesame oil while cooling.
  • Steaming broccoli with water and covering the skillet helps retain vibrant color and crisp texture.
  • Sear the steak without moving it initially to develop a nice caramelized crust for enhanced flavor.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes to taste if you prefer less or more heat.
  • This dish can be made gluten-free by substituting tamari for soy sauce and gluten-free hoisin sauce.
