Ingredients

Scale

For the Sauce

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon cracked red pepper flakes

For the Stir Fry

  • 2 (3 ounce) packages ramen noodles, seasoning packets discarded
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • 1 pound sirloin steak, trimmed of fat and sliced into 1 1/2-inch strips (about 1/4-inch thickness)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the Sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce and cornstarch until no lumps remain. Add the beef broth, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and cracked red pepper flakes. Whisk thoroughly to combine all the ingredients and set aside.
  2. Cook the Ramen Noodles: Bring a medium pot of water to a boil. Add the ramen noodles and cook for 2-3 minutes until just tender. Drain the noodles and rinse them under cold water to stop the cooking process. Drizzle with 1 teaspoon sesame oil and toss gently to prevent sticking.
  3. Cook the Steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of extra-virgin olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers. Season the sliced sirloin steak with kosher salt and ground black pepper. Add the steak to the skillet and cook undisturbed for about 3 minutes to develop a good sear. Stir and cook for an additional 2 minutes until cooked through. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside, pouring off any excess grease.
  4. Steam the Broccoli: Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet. Add the broccoli florets and pour in 1/2 cup of water. Cover the skillet and steam the broccoli for 2 minutes until bright green and fork-tender but still crisp.
  5. Combine Ingredients: Return the cooked steak to the skillet with the broccoli. Add the drained ramen noodles. Stir the prepared sauce once more and pour it over the skillet ingredients. Using tongs, toss everything together to ensure the sauce evenly coats the noodles, steak, and broccoli. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until heated through.
  6. Serve: Remove from heat and transfer to serving plates. Garnish with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and serve immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use low-sodium soy sauce to control the saltiness of the dish.
  • Be careful not to overcook the broccoli; steaming just until bright green keeps its crunch and nutrients intact.
  • Discard the ramen seasoning packets, as the homemade sauce provides all the needed flavor.
  • You can substitute sirloin with flank steak or skirt steak for similar results.
  • The dish is best enjoyed fresh but can be refrigerated for up to 2 days and reheated gently on the stovetop.
