Ingredients

Chicken Filling

  • 2 chicken breasts, finely diced
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp minced fresh ginger

Asian Slaw

  • 1 bag coleslaw mix (397g)
  • 4 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey

Wonton Tacos & Garnishes

  • 16 wonton wrappers
  • Cooking spray or olive/canola oil for baking
  • Sweet chili sauce, to serve
  • Chopped cilantro, to serve
  • Sesame seeds, to serve

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Muffin Tin: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a muffin tin with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook the Chicken: In a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp of sesame oil over medium heat. Add the finely diced chicken breasts and cook until browned on all sides.
  3. Add Sauces and Aromatics: Stir in 2 tbsp hoisin sauce, 1 tbsp soy sauce, minced garlic, and minced fresh ginger. Continue cooking until the chicken is fully cooked through, about 5-7 minutes, ensuring the sauce is well incorporated.
  4. Prepare the Asian Slaw: In a large mixing bowl, combine the coleslaw mix, sliced green onions, 1 tbsp sesame oil, 1 tbsp rice vinegar, 1 tbsp soy sauce, and 1 tbsp honey. Toss all ingredients well until the slaw is evenly coated with the dressing.
  5. Form and Bake Wonton Cups: Lay each wonton wrapper gently into the muffin tin cups, pressing them down to form taco-shaped cups. Lightly spray the wrappers with cooking oil. Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown and crisp.
  6. Assemble the Tacos: Once the wonton cups are baked and slightly cooled, fill each with the cooked chicken mixture. Top generously with the prepared Asian slaw.
  7. Serve and Garnish: Drizzle each taco with sweet chili sauce and garnish with chopped cilantro and sesame seeds. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture experience.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add some chopped fresh chili or a dash of Sriracha to the chicken mixture.
  • These wonton tacos can be made ahead and assembled just before serving to keep the wraps crisp.
  • Substitute coleslaw mix with finely shredded Napa cabbage or kale for a different texture.
  • Use low-sodium soy sauce to reduce salt intake if preferred.
  • These tacos are perfect as appetizers or party snacks and can be doubled for larger gatherings.
