Crispy and sweet Air Fryer Apple Fries make a deliciously healthy snack or dessert. Coated in a cinnamon-sugar panko crust, these apple sticks are air fried to golden perfection for a guilt-free treat that’s perfect for dipping in caramel, yogurt, or whipped cream.

Ingredients

Scale

Apples

  • 2 large apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith work great)

Batter & Coating

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Other

  • Nonstick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Prep apples: Peel the apples if you prefer (optional) and cut them into fry-like sticks. Use a paper towel to pat the apple sticks dry, removing any excess moisture to ensure a crispy coating.
  2. Set up coating stations: Prepare three bowls: Bowl 1 with the all-purpose flour; Bowl 2 with the whisked egg and milk mixture; Bowl 3 with the mix of panko breadcrumbs, sugar, and cinnamon.
  3. Coat apples: Dredge each apple stick first in the flour to lightly dust it, then dip into the egg and milk mixture to moisten, and finally coat thoroughly with the panko breadcrumb mixture ensuring an even crust.
  4. Air fry: Lightly spray the coated apple fries with nonstick cooking spray. Arrange them in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. If needed, cook in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  5. Cook: Air fry the apple fries at 380°F (190°C) for 7 to 9 minutes. Shake the basket halfway through cooking to promote even browning and crispiness. The apple fries should turn golden and crisp when done.
  6. Serve: Remove from the air fryer and serve the apple fries warm with your choice of caramel dip, yogurt, or whipped cream for dipping.

Notes

  • Peeling the apples is optional; leaving the skin adds extra fiber and texture.
  • Choose tart apple varieties like Granny Smith for a balance to the sweetness of the coating.
  • To keep apple fries crispy, do not overcrowd the air fryer basket.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour and panko with gluten-free alternatives.
  • Store leftover apple fries in an airtight container and reheat briefly in the air fryer to retain crispiness.
